LET US START REMINDING EVERYONE THAT WE SHOULD FOCUS ON THE ROAD, NOT ON THE PHONE!

Dear Local Business Owner and Concerned Drivers, 

My name is Ray Zak and I am from Shelby Township, Michigan.  Texting and driving have a negative impact on all drivers.  The National Safety Council states that an astonishing 1 out of every 4 car accidents in the United States is caused by texting and driving.  I am frustrated with this problem which is why I have been taking the initiative to bring a spotlight to the epidemic of texting and driving. Through my detailed initiatives in STOPTEXTERS.COM and with community support, we can help to eliminate the inconsiderate and dangerous practice of texting and driving.

I have already begun to bring this issue to light in our community, and my priority is to create a greater scope of AWARENESS, such having letters and stickers printed at my cost and offering them to those that would like to show support and join our cause. The importance of the window stickers is to develop a mindset that the practice of texting and driving is not acceptable I created the STOPTEXTERS.com website back in 2011 as a source of information and support as an additional effort to create awareness.

Stoptexters.com is implementing a National Campaign geared to help prevent distracted driving.  Our campaigns will be at a grass roots levels, from educating parents of that text and drive with their children in the car, show young drivers of the dangers of distracted driving,  working with local municipalities to further implement the laws and fines on those who put every driver in danger by texting and driving I will request that local municipalities post a stoptexters.com message on their electronic signs near their facilities stating the fines  and dangers of texting and driving . Texting and driving are very low in Alaska, it’s a $10,000.00 fine and punishable by up to a year in prison, think about that!

Please take a moment to check out the STOPTEXTERS.COM website.  The short film should be viewed by anyone that texts and drives a feel like they will never have a problem. The film shows the true reality of the dangers of texting and driving. You will also notice that STOPTEXTERS.COM has interactive features. These features are intended to bring notice to discourteous and dangerous drivers that are texting.  My hope is that spotlighting these drivers that have no respect for others’ safety will bring change to their bad driving habits.

In building awareness in our community, the window sticker can be displayed on a car window or business door. This shows solidarity and that not everyone is content with texting drivers. By design, it is made of high-quality reflective material and its small size is unobtrusive, sending a clear-cut message, “We will not stand for this destructive behavior of texting and driving.”  My belief is that as more texting drivers see the sticker while driving, going to the grocery store, grabbing lunch, attending an athletic function, or passing by an academic institution, they will think twice about texting and driving.

There have been restrictions and hinderances in pursuing a greater level of awareness and eliminating the practice of texting and driving. I have been using my personal funds to maintain STOPTEXTERS.COM and to purchase the window stickers. In my quest to end the harmful actions of texting while driving in our daily lives, other costs have been incurred and will continue to increase as this campaign rolls out.  This is where I am asking for your help.

I have set up a stoptexters.com GoFundMe account to help defray the following costs:

• The purchase of additional stickers for more individuals and businesses to display, providing them to all first responders to be placed vehicles, they see the worst of what texting and driving causes.
• The design and printing of signs directed at school parents driving and picking up their children. These signs will be placed near driveways entering and exiting schools.
• Signs in high schools parking lots, reminding students “Don’t Text and Drive, Keep your Friends Alive”
• The advertising cost of renting highway billboards to display our stoptexters.com message so drivers have a reminder while they are driving at high speeds.
• The work involves lobbying the State of Michigan to use their electronic highway signs to show mandatory fines that come with distracted driving.
• I will petition the State of Michigan and other States to truly pursue and ticket more distracted drivers and make very high mandatory fine.
• The cost of video cameras for filming violators in action. I presently have cameras filming as I drive but would like to be able to purchase more cameras for others to use.
• There is cost for an editing person that will parse pictures and videos for production, viewing, and distribution to schools and public events, and the cost for continued monitoring and updating of our website.

These strategies are the first of many in building awareness around the dangers of texting while driving.  I would like to promote our cause on GSTV (Gas Station TV), buy advertising space on television and on the internet.  I would also organize a school program that explains and effectively highlights the dangers of distracted driving.  For instance, our programs would include bringing in speakers that have been involved with the disastrous results of someone texting and driving.  Finally, I would like to set up committees to discuss what can be done at local levels of community and government.

Please consider supporting such an important cause to end texting and driving.  Consider the following:

• Texting while driving is 6x more likely to cause an accident than driving drunk.
• Answering a text takes away your attention for about five seconds. Traveling at 55 mph, that’s enough time to travel the length of a football field.
• 94 percent of drivers support a ban on texting while driving.

To show the community your support for our cause, we can add your company name and logo to our website should you want to procure a sponsorship on our website. But for now, all we ask is that you support us by placing this sticker in an area where the public will see it.  

Almost all states have laws regarding distracted driving, but our country is far behind others that have strictly enforced their distracted driving laws with very high automatic fines and suspension of driver’s licenses. STOPTEXTERS.COM, along with your support, will help in making these changes in our local communities and even nationwide.
